I have been sewing/crafting since I was 7 years old. My mom was a Home Ec teacher, and her mother a talented needle crafter, so my sisters and I had no choice but to learn. Counted Cross stitch, embroidery, needle point, knitting, crocheting… and of course sewing- between Mom and Grandma, we learned them all. It was part of my daily life, and I assumed that everyone else was learning the same things, like Little House on the Prairie or something.
As a kid, sewing was not a favorite thing -too much ripping out of wrongly sewn seams- so as a teen and young adult, I focused on hand needle crafts. It wasn’t until I was out on my own and needed new curtains( and to save money), that I realized it was time to revisit my old nemesis. I inherited a Singer machine from my great aunt. It is from the 1950’s, and I still sew on it today. My nemesis eventually became a dear old friend who rarely breaks down, and sews a multitude of stitches despite her age. She has assisted me with many projects over the years, including Halloween costumes, clothing for my daughter and myself, a multitude of crafts and quilting projects and, of course, curtains!
I love creating items for my family and others, and am excited to share them with you. I hope you enjoy my blog, and find it useful in your crafting.
